When you set up your camera for a long exposure like this, what mode do you use? I know the filer helps a lot, but wonder if you manually set the f-stop and shutter speed to bulb. Great picture.

For long exposures you can only use bulb mode. And further more it's not possible to shoot long exposures at daylight without a filter and by only adjusting the aperture to the smallest aperture. It is possible to shoot long exposures at night without a filter, but then again in that case you don't even need to shoot at a small aperture.
If you want to know more on long exposures then visit my website www.bwvision.com or www.joeltjintjelaar.com for tutorials on long exposure photography.
